New article about recent Liverpool’s research: “Newly discovered material could transform batteries, scientists say”. AI and chemists combined to find new way to build batteries. Read more here: (link).
New article about our most recent research: “Innovative technique reveals that leaping atoms remember where they have been”. University of Oxford researchers have used a new technique to measure the movement of charged particles (ions) on the fastest ever timescale, revealing new insights into fundamental transport processes. These include the first demonstration that the flow of atoms or ions possesses a ‘memory.’ The results have been published in the journal Nature. Read more here: (link).

The Faraday Institution, the UK’s flagship institute for electrochemical energy storage research, announces a £19 million investment in four key battery research projects aimed at delivering beneficial impact for the UK – that includes CATMAT. These existing projects in three research areas — next generation cathode materials, electrode manufacturing and sodium-ion batteries — have been reshaped to focus on the areas with the greatest potential for success. Prof Saiful Islam gave his Inauguration Lecture as a Statutory Professor at the University of Oxford, Department of Materials. Lecture took place in St. Annes College on 17th October. He discussed Li-battery cathode materials using 3D glasses.

Congratulations to Dr Andrey Poletayev who has just won the YESS Award 2022 (first prize) from the French battery network RS2E (Réseau sur le Stockage Electrochimique de l’Energie). The prize will be officially awarded during the Batteries 2022 conference in Lyon on Oct 19th.
Congratulations to Dr Samuel Coles who won a prize at the Research Computing Symposium at Bath for a talk on his CATMAT cathode material.

Congratulations to Professor Saiful Islam who became 2022 The Hughes Medal Winner. The Hughes Medal 2022 was given to Saiful for outstanding contributions to the deeper understanding of atomistic processes in new materials for use in energy applications, especially those related to lithium batteries and perovskite solar cells (link) (link)

The two winners for the talks given during the Early Career Researcher Day of the Faraday Institution conference are both from the CATMAT project: Miguel Perez Osorio (PDRA, Oxford) and Elizabeth Driscoll (PhD, Birmingham).
The Faraday Institution gave FUSE Intern Rebecca Daly‘s poster a highly commended recognition and one of four additional awards for ‘visual appeal’ after judging all FUSE poster submissions. Congratulations Rebecca!
